Hurray! Finished project...well sort of!

After giving up on the Pendrell for now I've almost finished the Amy Butler Liverpool shirt dress.  I say almost finished because although it looks fine when I'm stood up, the buttons are spaced too far apart (due to the pattern not me honest!) so need to wait for the packet of 100 self cover buttons to turn up that I ordered yesterday so I can sit down in it!  Yeah, ok, 100 might be overdoing it a bit...but I love them sooooooooo much!  I promise not to use them all at once!

Self covered buttons I made all by myself
Aren't they cute?  They look like sweeties!  Here they are in action!

Amy Butler Liverpool shirt dress in Amy Butler pattern fabric
As this wasn't a very inspiring shot and I wanted to show off the pretty bow at the back....

Cheeky shot of my behind, with the yellow bow
I couldn't resist! hehe!  I didn't have enough of the main fabric to do the bow with so used this almost fluorescent yellow cotton to pick out the yellow in the pattern.  I'm really impressed with myself that I've learnt so much in one pattern as I can now tick off self covered buttons, French seams and collars!  Can highly recommend this pattern, although like I said the buttons are spaced a little too far apart for me, would probably be ok for someone smaller than me but as you can see the top is gaping so maybe a FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) would have been a good idea and then I could have ticked four things off my 'to learn' list.

On the Must. Make. This. project, I've gathered my fabrics from my stash but didn't get the time today to start it as was sewing the shirt dress and had yesterday off from sewing completely as needed the rest.  Was so excited by this project last night I couldn't get to sleep!  I really am addicted to sewing!

  1. That looks gorgeous! Especially love the bow. Fab touch!

Re the gaping. would a combination of an extra button and some snaps work?

Learning a FBA sounds a bit scary but it's something I'll have to learn in the future too.

  3. Nice job Mimi! Looks like the fit is great, and the fabric is fabulous. If you still have gaping issues (sounds like the title of the next Oprah) I find that a hook and eye hidden between the buttons works a treat. Less chance of popping. And a FBA isn't that scary. It solves some amazing fitting issues too.

  6. Thank you all very much! I have fallen in love with this dress and am planning another already! On a side note, I tried it on before putting the buttons on and it's a rather cute spring jacket if you make the front pieces one size up I'd say and use the belt to close it...I wonder how similar it is to the one I'd been hankering for in the same range...

    Yeah something to wear!
