Can you tell what it is yet?

So what do these things have in common?

Ok, it's creased but it's just been washed and haven't ironed it yet but like the big pink and green flowers

Charity shop find pink and black plaid skirt

Sawdust

Can you guess?  Well, after looking into buying a tailor's ham and seam roll and seeing that either they were completely uninspiring or unfortunately the price of the shipping was prohibitive of the most pretty ones I thought I'd make my own.  Initially I had thought sawdust would be hard to find and then the lovely Sarah took pity on my lack of common sense and said 'pet bedding', D'oh!  So I will hopefully have a lovely tailor's ham and seam roll to show off sometime soon as need it to press all the princess seams I've been sewing lately...can't show you any of that though, that would be spoiling the surprise!

And because I don't want any of you to think I've been completely unproductive, here's a little something I'm working on:

Red cross stitch birdie
It's going to be on a Christmas decoration as it came as part of a kit with my Cross Stitcher magazine this month.  I'm really liking this little birdie, so you may see it more often.  I'm also thinking of what I can make for this year's Christmas presents but as I know my sister reads this blog I shall be switching to posting on the Crafty Christmas Club so I don't spoil any surprises.  Ok it's only September but I've got to be organised as have four nieces and two nephews to come up with new handmade gifts for to go in their dressing up boxes I did last Christmas.  I'm thinking I made a rod for my own back there...

Speaking of future projects, I treated myself to Colette's Macaron dress pattern in the M is for Make sale the other day and after speaking to Sarah (she's full of good ideas that girl!) I've decided to make it out of cotton velveteen, more precisely, this one and this one which I bought the other day and am waiting for it to arrive!  I've never used a Colette pattern before, but boy was I impressed by the packaging!  It's so pretty and tactile and it's more like a book, which I really love as there's no folding the pattern instructions this way and that to just get the bit you need to follow.  I really want to make this dress as feel it will look awesome on! hehe!  I really like The New Vintage Wardrobe's versions here and here.  I can't wait to see what mine looks like!  It probably won't be for a while though, so don't get your hopes up too much!

And that's it folks!  Happy Sewing!

  4. Thank you! I've had the pattern for the ham for ages from Burda, it's a free download, but just wasn't certain I could do it. Finger's crossed it'll turn out ok!

I'm so excited about the Macaron, I can see myself in it!

I think I'll have mine on rye rather than sawdust though ;)

  6. The ham plan is a good one. I made one and felt very smug ironing with it! But I cheated and just drew round my iron for the shape (when it was switched off of course).
Like the cross stitch - it looks very pretty. x
