No seriously I've made knickers with a cowboy print on them. Yeah it's a bit strange but it was a remnant of Cath Kidston I'd had hanging around since the year dot that I'd ummed and ahhhed about for ages and knew it would have to end up as some sort of lingerie or sleepwear due to it's print and lack of volume. So I got out the instructions and patterns from the lovely
Makery where I made my first pair and had another go since I received my bundle of lingerie elastic in the post yesterday.

An assortment of colours of elastic, all with loopy bits at the top to make them all pretty and lovely |

My cowboy knickers with yellow velvet ric rac trim |
I must admit there are a few cheats and mistakes in this pair, the cheat is that I didn't cut it on the bias as the fabric just wasn't wide enough to do that; tut tut, I know and the mistakes are that the ric rac is wonky, you can't tell when it's not on thankfully but when I put them on it's a little like one is drunk and the other isn't. The other mistake is that I made a size larger than the pair I made in the class but stupidly used the same elastic measurements as for the smaller pair so they're not as springy as they should be but stay up just fine, well when I put them on for the five seconds to prance in front of the mirror and laugh at the wonky ric rac. So I've been searching my stash and can see another two pairs on the horizon very soon and will ensure a spirit level is used when attaching any embellishments.
The other sewing news I have is of the sewing class I go to, there was a missing week as sadly my teacher wasn't well, as anyone who follows me on Facebook knows and I used my time well...haha! Yeah right. Thankfully normality ensued this Wednesday and I went to class, learnt the new block and had finished it by the following evening, it helped that I was on training in work and got a longer lunch break and stitched on the bus too.

Look! I prettied up my work book with the washi tape I won ages ago, it's Lotta Jansdotta and I love it! |

Quilting pieces, triangles stitched together to form squares, can you tell what it is yet? |

Ta-da! A pinwheel/windmill! |
I'm pretty proud of this one as I've managed to keep the points fairly well and think the colours go together too, the one in the top right hand corner isn't as dark as the picture and it has green and blue in it so goes with the others. Next week we get to pick a block either from the ones we've already done or a completely different design to make again and use as a project rather than just a stand alone block. Not sure what I'm going to do yet but I have some cunning plans! Hehe!
i bet you're running around the house in your new cowboy pants shouting yee-ha aren't you! ... next you'll be making a bow and arrow set with the knicker elastic and you'll have the complete wild west set!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I wish! I used to have a cowboy hat and a leather vest with tassels that my grandparents or aunt and uncle, I forget which as it was before I was born and a hand me down, had brought back from America along with a horn, an Indian drum and head dress and bells. All completely politically incorrect but great fun when you're five!
ReplyDeleteOh! I love those knickers! So cute!
ReplyDeleteLoving your patchwork too. You're so good at it!
Also - how did I not know that Lotta did washi tape!? My two great loves in the one thing!
ReplyDeleteFabulous knickers!
ReplyDeleteThis are rad! I totally love the cowboy fabric. Nice work with the patchwork :D
ReplyDeleteExcellent cowboy pants!! I'm so glad you've made more...I'm still " on the verge" of making my second pair....
ReplyDeleteOooh, go on you know you want to! ;)
DeleteLove your knickers! I've been wanting a pattern that works for wovens - all mine are for knits, and I'm too lazy these days to work out the difference. Do you know if the Makery sells the pattern separately from the class?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm not sure if they sell them give them an email and see. I'll be in touch.
Deletethose knickers are so cute! also, I can just see you going ahead and making a whole quilt! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI think I will make a whole quilt this winter...not sure what pattern though.
DeleteOkay, if I say I love your pants - does that sound too strange? They are fab. Liking the Lotta tape. x
ReplyDeleteThank you ladies!
ReplyDeleteRight, not sure what's going on but blogger is hiding comments from me, so sorry to all those whose comments didn't get published until today, I didn't know they were there. Hmmmm...will give blogger a slap and hope that works!
