A series of unfortunate events

There's no Lemony Snickett here but there's definitely a lot of events I could have done without.  The fair I was so looking forward to in my last post got cancelled at the last minute and then I fell on ice during that really cold snap and since I'm really lucky the impact of the fall aggravated the RSI and hurt my arms so much I am hereby banned from sewing or crafting.  I am going slightly insane but I know I'm in so much pain without doing any sneaky sewing that to go against orders would be more than folly.

So I'm just about managing with work as can't afford to take time off, but as I'm sure you'll appreciate sewing and posting isn't going to be happening any time soon.  At times I have felt like packing it all in and taking down the blog and shop and giving away all my fabric and threads as it's just taunting me at the moment, but I keep being told I will get better so I'm holding off until they chop my arms off as I suggested the other night...In some respects it would have been better if I'd just broken my arm as at least then I'd have a cast on and it would be something visible that I could go 'yeah, that whacking great big cast on my arm is the reason' but because I can't really see it, my arm and hand swelled and I've got bruising from the treatment to alleviate some of the problem, it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong.

On the bright side though I've painted my nails!  It's the first time in ages as I don't usually bother since I end up scratching it or putting dents in it or chipping it whilst sewing or crafting.  They're now a wonderful shade of Cadbury's purple!  Yum yum!  I'd take a picture but I'm no manicurist at the best of times and do have some paint on my skin!  Whoops!

I just didn't want anyone to think I was being lazy or ignoring the blog, I hadn't intended on saying anything about the fall but since I really don't know how long I'm going to take to recover enough to make something I can show here I thought there had better be an explanation of the silence.

  1. Oh no! How frustrating. Will you be back in action soon? Could you use this time to make a couple of mood boards for the coming spring and summer? Just a suggestion, might help you feel better. Or not. Ignore me. Anyway, lots of l ove for a speedy recovery x

  5. mmmm Cadbury's purple fingers! Was the bottle labeled Dairy Milk Digits?

Sorry to hear about all your injuries and RSI lately, but I trust that it will heal if you can give it the time it needs, and you'll be rearing to go again before too long x

  6. I never thought you were lazy, just busy with other things. Don't worry about neglecting this and take care of yourself.

I've had a lot of problems with RSI myself (as in I wear braces almost all the time, sometimes simply cannot move my arms at all can't hold things, etc.) I promise, it gets better. It will take a while, possibly a long while, but the swelling goes down and the nerves stop being pinched and the pain dissipates. Its the most horribly frustrating thing in the world when your mind is fine but your arms won't play along, and if you need someone to talk to (skype or whatever) let me know, because I have been there, can commiserate and will happily tell you really bad jokes to take your mind off of it.

  8. Sounds awful mimi, I'm so sorry. Had noticed you'd been away for a bit. You are right to not give away your bits and bobs. Hang in there! There will be light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully its not too frustrating doing lots of research and gathering inspiration for when you can pick it up again x

  9. Alison, thank you so much! Last weekend I really thought it was the end of my life as I know it as the pain was so bad. It's good to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you Charlotte and Mrs SB, yeah hopefully I'll be able to finally get through that Vogue sewing handbook and have everything down pat when I get better enough to sew!

  11. Am sure you'll be feeling much better soon. You could always get out and about with your camera and do what I'm doing at the moment - making a colour book. I'm putting in it all the lovely colour combinations I find, mixing paint, photos, bits of magazines, wool, fabric scraps, so I can use it as reference for future crafting projects. Don't give up!

  22. Massive cwtches! RSI is so cruel. I used to suffer from it years ago and once had to stop knitting for a few months. That was one of the worst ever periods of my life so I can completely relate. It's just awful to not be allowed to craft.

    I hope it eases soon.
